These websites allow you to post a link on their website. Once it is posted, it will immediately displayed on the site. Of course, you cannot submit too many bookmarks per day. Submitting 2 – 3 bookmarks on each site should be sufficient. In addition, you should not submit the site to hundreds of social bookmarking site in one day. It is recommended that you spread the social bookmarking campaign over 1 – 2 weeks. Submitting to too many social bookmarking sites will result in gaining too many backlinks in a short time. Some people may report you to the moderator so that your account will be shut down. Since social bookmarking is for sharing useful information with other sites, self promotion is strictly prohibited. You should social bookmark your site frequently so that the members will get to know you.

You can spend time browsing other people’s bookmarks to see how they manage to rank on the top spot. To build up your credibility, you should be active and participate in the discussion forum of the site. You can create a large list of friends on the social bookmarking site. You can help growing each social bookmarking site by introducing it to your friends, family, and colleagues.

Manual submission is recommended compare to automated submission. With automated submission, the software will blast the URL to hundreds of social bookmarking sites. Most social bookmarking sites can detect robotic submission and delete the URL from their database. If you repetitively use automatic software to submit social bookmarks, there is a high risk that your account and IP address banned from the site. In addition, gaining backlinks too fast will cause the search engine to penalize your site.

If you feel manual submission is tedious, you can use semi auto submission. There are several websites that offers free semi automatic social bookmarking submission such as socialmarker.com, and onlywire.com. Onlywire is available as an add-on for the Mozilla Firefox browser. In semi automated submission, you must create an account at each of the social bookmarking site which you wish to submit your website to.

Since social bookmaking is a time consuming process, you might want to consider outsourcing the work to a SEO company. Before purchasing a submission service, make sure you read reviews and do price comparison between different companies so that you can make an informed decision.
