Are the Chinese police too busy performing censorship to protect Olympic visitors from real threats?

An American has already been stabbed to death in the first 24 hours of the Games.

I would suggest yes

I’ve boycotted the Olympic games for the first time in my life I’m so ashamed and discussed that it has been allowed to happen,everyone in the world knows what’s happening and Nations still insist in participating for mere medals and glory instead of boycotting it, injustice and cruelty would seem to mean nothing to them and sadly as you say one US tourist has been killed,how many more people will be killed because of this veneer of showmanship by the chinese Goverment in protest.

Edit: And before anyone insists that politics should’nt be brought into the olympics the Olympics are about much more than mere sport as follows….

The Olympic Charter defines the Olympic ideals as: ‘respect for universal ethical fundamental principles’. Despite being the host for the 2008 Games, the Chinese government has shown clear contempt for such values in its recent brutal crackdown in Tibet. The IOC must therefore break its silence on China’s human rights record and defend its own Charter’s values.

Norman Baker MP, member of The All Party Parliamentary Group for Tibet and President of the Tibet Society said:
It is deeply sad that the Chinese through their brutality in Tibet have contaminated the Olympic ideal. We obviously wish all our athletes well in Beijing but the thundercloud hanging over the Olympics cannot be ignored by governments and will not be ignored by millions of people across the world.
