B2B websites means Business to Business transaction that occurs between two companies, as opposed to a transaction involving a consumer. The term may also describe a company that provides goods or services for another company.

B2B concerns itself primarily with supply chain management. These are portals that allow businesses to deal directly with their suppliers and distributors online.  A B2B site deals primarily with other businesses, not the general public. This site normally handles a lot more than just sales of products; they are a portal to conduct business transactions.

In B2B the customers are companies.B2B transactions are more complex. They involve lot of negotiations over price, delivery and product specifications. B2B transactions require integration with the other companies’ systems. This is important for communication. B2B transaction on the other hand may require setting up an account with the company.

The sales process takes a longer time for B2B Company than for a B2C company. B2B Websites Sell big value items or services. Their products are specialized and specific.B2B websites involve a long-term business relationship, support services, upgrades and modifications. B2B purchases require evaluating multiple factors. They require much more research, thought and analysis before a purchase is made.

B2B websites provide lot more information as compared to B2C websites. They require presentation of information in a concise and detailed format about the products.  Good content is the prerequisite for the success of B2B site. Content on a B2B site is more technical in nature.

The buying process on a B2B site may involve different people or departments at different stages of the buying process. So, a B2B site has to provide information that caters to people with varying needs and requirements. That is why B2B websites should be designed with usability in mind.

B2B is e-commerce between businesses. There are some disadvantages to B2B Portal websites that every sell and buyer should know. For one, there is no face-to-face contact that is so important for buyers and sellers. There is something about knowing the person that is selling you the product or is buying your product. This is lost in B2B transactions. In addition the level of fraud, theft and scams is higher when doing business on B2B Web Sites. Most of the companies buying and selling on B2B portal web sites are honest and sincere about doing business. But there are those “companies” on B2B sites that are purely to cheat others.

This is because product and services sold on a B2B website require more presale discussion, price negotiation and customization of the product before a sale is executed. Though B2B websites are more complex, they also offer more revenue-generating potential.
